The story

For more than five years we have leased ground in Madagascar and built our own mines on it, among them clear quartz mines, septarian mines and celestine mines. The project began with our gem versed prospector and mine engineer Roger Boulet, who looks after the local staff to this day. Our team numbers twenty people who, beyond their wages, are provided the best meals and working conditions. We have since added further mines for gemstones and minerals, with remarkable finds of large clear quartz, deep blue celestine and rare septarians.

The mining

First a site is chosen where earlier surveys make us confident of reaching the solid rock, the pegmatite, quickly. There we level a hundred square metres for an outdoor kitchen, tools and quarters. Through the quartz layer, drilling and blasting begin on the pegmatite, in hope of so called pockets, cavities in the rock where crystals are found. If none appears, we go deeper, layer by layer.

Authenticity

The crystals are lifted carefully from the pockets and usually packed inside the cavity itself, so nothing is damaged in transport. Then our strict quality control takes place. Colour intensity, brilliance and natural form decide which pieces make the shortlist. Those are assessed by our mineralogist Bashkim Asani, and only the most fascinating crystals enter the collection. Where our own finds fall short of that standard, we select crystals from across the world.

Swiss curation

The final selection is made by Bashkim Asani directly from Switzerland. The crystals that make the collection are delivered to our gallery and put on display. There, mineralogist Bashkim Asani and gemmologist Drin Asani are at your side and curate the right piece with you for every occasion.
